Work in Progress

All of my work starts out with an Idea... and during the process, all paintings develop a life of their own. My original idea often takes a different turn while on this road to completion. My endeavor here is to display images of works as they emerge along with my thoughts and emotions which are such an integral part of the process.

"The Hikers"
This piece is still in the beginning phase with the background about 80% done.
The figures were masked ahead of time and here the masking has just been removed.
I'm still not sure about color choices for the figures but I am happy with the results thus far.

Here you can see that more detail has been put into the foreground. I am beginning to work on
the figures, however I am feeling frustrated because the background seems too dark and I am
still at odds as to the colors and values that will save this piece and keep it from becoming
another unfinished frame less work in my "collection".

I'm feeling better about this piece and although it is heavier than I would have liked,
I will consider it complete, sign it and frame it for display.

"Lydia"s View"

This image shows the painting at about 60% complete. The background is finished,
the middle ground is about half way and I am beginning to make design decisions
regarding the figure. The Figure, middle ground and foreground were masked.
Although excited about this piece, I am concerned about how to treat the
middle ground in a way that keeps the painting fresh.
